Gotion High-Tech Begins Construction of Australia's Largest DC-Coupled Solar-Plus-Storage Project

According to reports on June 10, Gotion High-Tech has officially commenced construction of the Lower Wonga Solar-Plus-Storage Project in Australia.

Located in Queensland, Australia, the project will integrate a 380 MWdc solar PV plant with a 281 MW / 843 MWh battery energy storage system (BESS), making it one of the largest DC-coupled solar-plus-storage projects in Australia. The project is expected to achieve grid connection and commercial operation by the end of 2028.

The Lower Wonga project is being developed and invested in by Lightsource bp, a leading international integrated renewable energy developer.

As the project's core Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) contractor, Gotion High-Tech will deliver a comprehensive solar-plus-storage solution, including energy storage system design, equipment supply, system integration, and grid commissioning.

The project will deploy Gotion's Qianyuan Smart Energy Storage 5 MWh system, equipped with the company's proprietary long-life battery cells designed to support a 25-year operational lifespan. The system has obtained IEC certification and Australian grid compliance approvals, ensuring reliable performance under the country's complex grid conditions.
