BYD Energy Storage Signs 11.275GWh Agreement with Masdar to Support Global First GW-Scale 24/7 Renewable Energy Project
On July 9, 2026, BYD Energy Storage announced that, following its successful award of the 12.5GWh Saudi Arabia world’s largest grid-side energy storage project, the company has signed an 11.275GWh cooperation agreement with Masdar, a leading energy company in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), to provide energy storage solutions for its RTC (Round The Clock) project.
Located in Abu Dhabi, the RTC project is the world’s first GW-scale 24/7 renewable energy project. Jointly developed by Masdar and the Emirates Water and Electricity Company (EWEC), the project represents one of the world’s largest and most advanced solar-plus-storage developments.
By deeply integrating solar PV and energy storage, the project aims to overcome the intermittency challenges of renewable energy and achieve continuous 24-hour clean power supply.
For this landmark project, BYD Energy Storage will provide its BYD Haohan Energy Storage System. The system is equipped with the world’s largest 2710Ah energy storage-specific Blade Battery, featuring a single-unit capacity of up to 14.5MWh.
Compared with previous-generation solutions, the system delivers more than 300% improvement in single-unit capacity, achieving a significant breakthrough in energy density. Meanwhile, the complexity of the Battery Management System (BMS) is reduced by 70–80%, significantly enhancing system reliability and operational efficiency.
The BYD Haohan Energy Storage System will help maximize the project’s safety, reliability, and lifecycle value, ensuring 24/7 stable power supply and providing a solid foundation for the continuous delivery of renewable electricity.
Through this collaboration, BYD Energy Storage continues to strengthen its global presence in large-scale energy storage and contribute to the development of a more reliable and sustainable clean energy future.
