Global momentum in the energy storage market continued to accelerate in May, with leading Chinese energy storage companies announcing a series of major contract wins across domestic and international markets. Within a single month, newly signed energy storage agreements exceeded 76GWh, highlighting the sustained growth of the global battery energy storage sector.
EVE Energy Signs 8GWh Energy Storage Order in India, with Potential 60GWh Cooperation
On May 12, EVE Energy announced that it had officially signed an 8GWh battery energy storage order with Indian energy company Godawari New Energy Private Limited. The two parties also outlined plans for potential cooperation totaling 60GWh over the next five years.
CORNEX Secures 50GWh Energy Storage Agreements
On May 13, CORNEX signed strategic cooperation agreements with five industry partners, including CRRC Zhuzhou Institute, CLOU Electronics, Wolong Energy Storage, KUBO Energy, and Growatt.
The agreements cover multiple battery products, including 648Ah, 588Ah, 314Ah, and 100Ah residential energy storage batteries, with a combined contracted capacity reaching 50GWh.
CATL Wins 1.5GWh Energy Storage Supply Agreement in Spain
On May 21, according to Power Technology, Grenergy signed an agreement with CATL to procure 1.5GWh of battery products for its battery energy storage projects in Oviedo and Escuderos, Spain.
CATL Named Preferred Bidder for 4GWh Battery Cell Tender
On May 25, Guoning New Energy Storage (Fujian) Technology Co., Ltd. announced the shortlisted bidders for its first battery cell procurement tender of 2026. CATL ranked as the preferred bidder, corresponding to an awarded capacity of 4,000MWh (4GWh).
BYD Energy Storage Signs 5GWh Battery Energy Storage System Contract
On May 21, BYD Energy Storage signed cooperation agreements with Xinyuan Wansheng Technology Development (Shanghai) Co., Ltd.
The agreements include a 4GWh framework procurement agreement for battery energy storage systems in Gansu Province and a 1GWh BESS equipment supply contract for the Phase I Jinchang Energy Storage Project, bringing the total contracted capacity to 5GWh.
Sungrow Secures Another 7.5GWh Energy Storage Order in the Middle East
Also on May 21, Sungrow announced that it had secured a 7.5GWh energy storage contract in the United Arab Emirates.
Under the agreement, Sungrow will supply its PowerTitan 3.0 liquid-cooled battery energy storage system and 2.6GW of PV inverters for the RTC 1 Plant (North) project, developed in partnership with international renewable energy company Masdar.
HyperStrong Signs 440MWh Energy Storage Project in Malaysia
On May 27, HyperStrong announced that it had signed a cooperation agreement with ERS Energy, an ASEAN renewable energy EPCC (Engineering, Procurement, Construction and Commissioning) company, and Gamuda, one of Malaysia's leading infrastructure and energy companies.
The three parties will jointly develop the MyBeST Pekan Battery Energy Storage Project in Malaysia, with a planned capacity of 100MW/440MWh.
