CATL Secures 5.4 GWh of Energy Storage Orders Across Finland and Australia
According to international media reports on June 9, CATL has secured a total of 5.4 GWh in new battery energy storage system (BESS) orders through strategic partnerships in Finland and Australia.
The agreements include the deployment of approximately 3 GWh of energy storage systems in the Nordic region in collaboration with Merus Power, as well as the supply of 2.4 GWh of battery energy storage systems for Edify Energy's Smoky Creek and Guthrie's Gap solar projects in Australia.
3 GWh Energy Storage Partnership in the Nordic Region
On June 9, Finnish energy solutions provider Merus Power signed a strategic cooperation agreement with CATL to deploy approximately 3 GWh of battery energy storage systems across the Nordic region.
Under the agreement, CATL will supply the battery energy storage systems, while Merus Power will be responsible for system integration, inverter supply, engineering, construction, and operation & maintenance (O&M) services.
The two companies have already collaborated on approximately 500 MWh of energy storage projects in Finland and other locations, providing a solid foundation for this expanded partnership.
2.4 GWh Battery Energy Storage Project in Australia
CATL has also entered into an agreement with Edify Energy to supply 2.4 GWh of battery energy storage systems for two solar power projects in central Queensland, Australia.
The Smoky Creek and Guthrie's Gap projects will be integrated into a single 600 MW solar-plus-storage power station, featuring 720 MWp of solar PV capacity and a 600 MW / 2,400 MWh battery energy storage system.
The development will consist of two independent 300 MW generation units connected to the local 275 kV transmission network through a newly constructed switching station.
The project will utilize a reverse DC-coupled hybrid architecture, designed to enhance grid stability and resilience. It is located approximately 40 kilometers north of Biloela in Queensland's Banana Shire, on the traditional lands of the Gangulu People.
Smoky Creek and Guthrie's Gap solar power stations (pictured) are planned to feature an energy storage capacity of 2,400 MWh.
