BYD Announces US$100 Million Investment in Battery Energy Storage Manufacturing in Brazil
EFE, June 19 – Chinese automaker BYD announced on Thursday that it will invest BRL 500 million (approximately US$100 million) to establish a battery energy storage manufacturing facility in Brazil.
In a statement, BYD said the investment will be implemented in phases and will be “gradually increased” over time.
The company highlighted the significant application potential of energy storage batteries in Brazil, citing the country’s “uneven regional power generation distribution” and the dominance of energy-intensive industries such as mining and agriculture.
BYD noted that its extensive experience in electric vehicle battery manufacturing will support the new venture and serve as “a key component” of its broader energy transition strategy.
“BYD not only provides clean transportation solutions and solar power generation equipment, but will also deliver intelligent infrastructure capable of large-scale energy storage and power management, with fully autonomous operational capabilities,” the company said.
According to BYD, the project represents the largest investment ever made in Brazil’s domestic battery energy storage sector. Once operational, the facility’s production capacity will be flexibly adjusted to meet evolving demand across the Latin American market.
BYD has been operating in Brazil for more than a decade. As of 2025, the company’s cumulative sales of battery electric and hybrid vehicles in the country have surpassed 200,000 units.
